About child safety seats.

child safety seats
Which child safety seat is the safest one? Child safety seats are available in 3 different styles. The forward-facing, rear-facing, and convertible all are safe products, simply different applications.

The rear-facing seat is best for infants under 20 pounds and 1 year old. Now, if your infant reaches 20 pounds before his/her birthday they should remain in the rear-facing seat until at least 1 year old. A good rule of thumb is to use the seat up to the manufacturer's recommendations. Rear-facing seats should never be used in the front seat of a vehicle with passenger side air bags.

The forward facing seats are for children after exceeding the manufacturer's recommendations on the rear-facing seat. When looking at forward-facing safety seats, the best choice is to have several harness points allowing the child to grow without having to replace the seat.

The convertible seat is simply a combination of the rear and forward- facing seats. These seat allow for infant use as rear facing and forward facing for older use. This is the best budget way for safety. These styles have not proven to be more or less safe then the others.

Just remember always adhere to the manufacturer's recommendation.

Child Safety 123 - Fingerprints

Child Safety 123, not one of the kids fingerprinted Saturday at Chicago's Weil Hummer in Libertyville was under arrest.

Weil Hummer, asked kids to be fingerprinted in the name of safety.

"If your child was ever abducted, you could provide all this information to the authorities," said George Rauch of DNA LifePrint based in Davie, Fla. "Hopefully, you'll never have to use it. It's just a little insurance."

"If something ever happened, it's much harder to gather this information because parents are upset," Rauch said.

The Libertyville Fire Department also was there.

"Child safety is our priority, and the kids like to climb around the truck," said Russ Bartholomew, with the Libertyville Fire Department.
